Dear Parents

2023 P5 Grade Accelerator Programme

Here’s How We Intend To Help Your Child Succeed.

Here’s What We’ll Be Covering In The Upcoming Months

From January to May

Our key objective is to help familiarise your child with how answers are expected to be structured at the Primary 5 level.

In addition, we will train your child to be accustomed to the analysis and interpretation of Science concepts embedded within experiments. This is vastly different from the style of questions seen in Primary 3 and Primary 4 where students are awarded full marks simply by filling in the blanks and writing short one-sentence statements as answers.

One of the most common questions asked by parents is “My child is learning Systems now and not Cycles. Will the regular classes still be beneficial to my child’s learning?”.

To overcome this challenge, we will be working closely with your child to introduce Primary 5 topics from the themes of “Systems” and “Cycles” in an alternate manner.

For topics taught in school that The Pique Lab has yet to cover, we will be providing additional learning material – “Extra Revision Series” – to help students cope with their learning in school.

While we are not able to review the additional learning materials in class, students are highly encouraged to seek help from their respective teachers if they encounter any challenges.

If you would like to expose your child to some of the Primary 5 questions and their analysis, you may check out the articles written by our teachers here: https://www.thepiquelab.com/p5-analysis

Key Objective By May

By the month of May, we aim to help your child complete learning 80% of the Primary 5 syllabus.

Next, we will focus on the application of Science concepts learnt on open-ended examination questions – a section where students struggle the most.

Fast-Tracking Revision With The P5 CCI™ In June

In order to help your child achieve the next milestone in Science, your child will be required to attend the 2023 P5 Complete Concept Integration™ Science Course during the June School Holidays.

Delivered over four content-packed sessions, we will get your child up to speed with the thought processes (i.e. how to think, concept linkages) and the answering techniques required for a mixture of P4 & P5 topics.

🔺 All 2023 P5 Grade Accelerator Programme students will get access to a concessionary fee of S$400 (instead of $577, the fee paid by the general public).

This fee will be collected together with the fees in Term 2, which will be due on 24 March 2023, unless you’ve opted for the Annual Payment Plan.

Why Is The P5 CCI™ A Part Of Our 2023 P5 GAP™?

During the June Holidays, we’ll be able to leverage the extra time we have with our students to consolidate their understanding of major topics.

This allows us to complete the P5 syllabus by the end of July 2023 and begin overall SA2 revision way ahead of the school curriculum.

By doing so, this enables us to help our students overcome their biggest challenge – the application of their content knowledge (what they have learnt) to the various examination-type questions.

It gives the students a longer runway to practise the techniques and application taught in the P5 CCI Science Course to prepare in advance for SA2 examinations.

The Final Learning Stretch

In the month of July, your child will be exposed to the 5 question types of Electricity.

Electricity is often a topic that many students find confusing because of the manner in which it is introduced to them. By dividing the topic into bite-size “sub-topics”, your child will be able to master the topic of Electricity easily.

We have also noted that some students may be tested on this topic for their weighted assessments. Hence, for students who require them, we will be releasing 2 sets from the “Extra Revision Series” (as mentioned earlier), to help prepare your child for this topic.

The Last Lap

The teaching for the P5 Science syllabus will be finished early with the consolidation of the key Science concepts during the P5 CCI™ workshop and with the completion of the topic of Electricity. This gives us more time to help your child in his/her revision for the Primary 5 SA2 Science examination.

Our strategy towards tackling the Primary 5 Science syllabus will provide your child with approximately 3 months of revision time to increase his/her exposure to Science examination questions, enabling your child to consolidate and reinforce the Science concepts he/she has learnt over the past 3 years. This revision phase is expected to last until the end of October when most students will have completed their SA2 Science examination.

In the month of November, we will begin introducing two Primary 6 topics, Energy and Forces, to give your child a head start for his/her PSLE year. These lessons will run till the end of November.

In December, our Centre will be closed for the month and we will resume classes on the first week of January.

Experimental Techniques Masterclass

Any time from June 2023 onwards, we will highly recommend that your child finds some time to complete this very impactful 3-hour workshop, called the Experimental Techniques™ Masterclass.

This will help your child pick up the essential skill sets needed to tackle 7 types of experimental-centric questions effectively.

These skill sets are touched upon but not covered in detail during GAP weekly lessons.

What If The Topic Sequence Doesn’t Match Your Child’s School Curriculum?

As you may be aware, different schools teach topics in different sequences and your child’s school curriculum may not be perfectly aligned with the curriculum of our Grade Accelerator Programme.

Here at The Pique Lab, we teach an accelerated curriculum and our end goal is to cover the entire syllabus and have ample time for revision for the final year examination.

If your child has not learned a topic that is taught during the Grade Accelerator Programme, it will be a head start for him/her before the topic is taught during the school curriculum.

If your child has learnt it in school previously, it will be a good reinforcement for him/her as he/she might not have a thorough understanding of the topic when he/she was taught in school.

Throughout your child’s academic year with us, should he/she be taught a different topic from our internal curriculum, we will provide an additional topical study guide, on request, for him/her to work on in his/her own time.

Is Your Child Ready For The Big Year Ahead?

Over the years, we have also learnt that parents play a pivotal role in the academic success of their child. In particular, we discovered that students typically achieve breakthroughs faster in Science if their parents coach and monitor them at home regularly.

In order to offer the best learning experience for your child, we also strive to provide an amazing support system for parents, like you.

For starters, here is how you can help your child improve more quickly:

#1: Ensure that your child completes his/her homework properly & punctually and brings them back to class.

#2: Ensure that your child reviews our notes and worksheets during the week.

#3: Ensure that your child is adequately prepared for our tests.

#4: If your child is unclear of a concept or has a question, you are highly encouraged to post that on our Parent Support Group on Facebook or encourage him/her to approach his/her teacher.

Thank you & all the best! 😇
