Dear Parents

2023 P3 Grade Accelerator Programme

Here’s How We Intend To Help Your Child Succeed.

Here’s What We’ll Be Covering In The Upcoming Months

Your child may be encountering Science as an academic subject for the first time in 2023. Understandably, your child may be unsure of how to go about studying for this new subject.

Here’s How We Intend To Pique Your Child’s Interest In Science

A variety of experiments and activities will be carried out to engage your child’s interest in Science.

We also aim to develop their inquisitiveness and improve their focus through the use of visual aids such as videos and coloured notes.

Having said that, I believe that you would agree with me that this can only work with the engagement of our teachers.

Rest assured that our methodology focuses on “asking more” and “telling less”.

It is important for our students to share their thought processes with us so that we can correct them and guide them in their understanding of the key Science concepts.

Tackling Science Questions

Being able to identify keywords and key phrases is the cornerstone of crafting a good Science answer. Through the course of the year, we will be supporting your child in his/her quest to master the art of answering Science questions. This is achieved through ample question exposure and adequate practice.

Our weekly in-class exercises consist of carefully selected examination questions that are representative of key question types and question trends. Incorporating these examination-centric questions into our worksheets allows your child to be able to immediately apply and practise the concepts that he/she has learnt.

In doing so, students need not wait till the last minute to practise examination questions. This allows us to consistently develop their confidence in tackling such questions. Because we have a vested interest in monitoring your child’s progress, they will be tested at the end of each topic to assess their understanding of the Science concepts taught.

September and October

In September, we will commence revision for the SA2 examination by going through topical revision worksheets in class.

Topical study guides will also be distributed to your child for his/her revision. These study guides serve as a summary of the important concepts taught for each topic, as well as teach students how to apply the correct answering techniques to the application questions frequently tested for each topic.

Reading, understanding and memorising them will help your child to consolidate his/her concepts, understand how to answer the common application questions for the various topics, and also increase your child’s confidence in the subject matter. In October, we will work on past year school examination papers, both in class and as homework, which will adequately prepare the students for their SA2 examinations.

From November Onwards

In November, we will begin the topic of Matter. This is a Primary 4 topic, giving your child a head start for the upcoming year. We will also be working on some cool experiments together to show them how Science is applied to daily life. These lessons will run till the end of November.

In December, our Centre will be closed for the month and we will resume classes on the first week of January.

What If The Topic Sequence Doesn’t Match Your Child’s School Curriculum?

As you may be aware, different schools teach topics in different sequences and your child’s school curriculum may not be perfectly aligned with the curriculum of our Grade Accelerator Programme.

Here at The Pique Lab, we teach an accelerated curriculum and our end goal is to cover the entire syllabus and have ample time for revision for the final year examination.

If your child has not learned a topic that is taught during the Grade Accelerator Programme, it will be a head start for him/her before the topic is taught during the school curriculum.

If your child has learnt it in school previously, it will be a good reinforcement for him/her as he/she might not have a thorough understanding of the topic when he/she was taught in school.

Throughout your child’s academic year with us, should he/she be taught a different topic from our internal curriculum, we will provide an additional topical study guide, on request, for him/her to work on in his/her own time.

Is Your Child Ready For The Big Year Ahead?

Over the years, we have also learnt that parents play a pivotal role in the academic success of their child. In particular, we discovered that students typically achieve breakthroughs faster in Science if their parents coach and monitor them at home regularly.

In order to offer the best learning experience for your child, we also strive to provide an amazing support system for parents, like you.

For starters, here is how you can help your child improve more quickly:

#1: Ensure that your child completes his/her homework properly & punctually and brings them back to class.

#2: Ensure that your child reviews our notes and worksheets during the week.

#3: Ensure that your child is adequately prepared for our tests.

#4: If your child is unclear of a concept or has a question, you are highly encouraged to post that on our Parent Support Group on Facebook or encourage him/her to approach his/her teacher.

Please note that only topical tests & graded assignments given in the weekly classes will be marked for all learning arrangements. Homework that is given in the weekly classes will be reviewed together as a class and will not be marked.

Thank you & all the best! 😇
