Dear Parents
2023 P4 Grade Accelerator Programme
Here’s How We Intend To Help Your Child Succeed.
Here’s What We’ll Be Covering In The Upcoming Months
We will be focusing on open-ended questions in Primary 4 by guiding your child through the thought process of formulating answers using the necessary keywords.
We will also be working with the students on their ability to memorise the template answers taught in class. In order for students to apply Science concepts with the necessary keywords to the relevant questions, they must first understand and remember these template answers.
To make lessons more interesting, experiments will be conducted in class and relevant videos will be shown to the students. These are usually done at the start of a new topic. Subsequently, topical tests will be given at the end of each topic to assess your child’s level of understanding. We seek your cooperation in ensuring that your child is adequately prepared for the tests.
Important Topics of Focus
As your child progresses from Primary 3 to Primary 4, your child may feel that Science is becoming more challenging.
The challenge in Primary 4 Science mainly stems from the following topics: Matter, Light Energy, and Heat Energy. The key concepts in these topics are harder to grasp and understand as there is plenty of room for misconceptions. In addition, your child will be required to apply these concepts to a wide variety of real-life application questions.
In order to help your child improve at tackling questions from Matter, Light Energy, and Heat Energy, we will be spending more time/lessons on these 3 topics (approximately 6 to 8 lessons on each topic as compared to the usual 4 or 5 lessons per topic). Your child will also be exposed to more experiments for these 3 topics so that he/she will be able to have clarity when faced with questions that test on similar experiments.
The Last Lap – September and October
We will commence revision for P4 SA2 Examinations in September and October through the use of in-class topical revision worksheets as well as past year school examination papers. Study guides will also be distributed to your child for his/her revision. They serve as a comprehensive summary of the important information taught for each topic.
Reading, understanding, and memorising them will help your child to consolidate his/her content knowledge for the various topics and will also increase your child’s confidence in the subject matter.
From November Onwards
In the month of November next year, we will begin introducing three Primary 5 topics – Transport in Plants, Respiratory System, and Circulatory System to give your child a head start on his/her Primary 5 year. These lessons will run till the end of November.
In December, our Centre will be closed for the month and we will resume classes on the first week of January.
What If The Topic Sequence Doesn’t Match Your Child’s School Curriculum?
As you may be aware, different schools teach topics in different sequences and your child’s school curriculum may not be perfectly aligned with the curriculum of our Grade Accelerator Programme.
Here at The Pique Lab, we teach an accelerated curriculum and our end goal is to cover the entire syllabus and have ample time for revision for the final year examination.
If your child has not learned a topic that is taught during the Grade Accelerator Programme, it will be a head start for him/her before the topic is taught during the school curriculum.
If your child has learnt it in school previously, it will be a good reinforcement for him/her as he/she might not have a thorough understanding of the topic when he/she was taught in school.
Throughout your child’s academic year with us, should he/she be taught a different topic from our internal curriculum, we will provide an additional topical study guide, on request, for him/her to work on in his/her own time.
Is Your Child Ready For The Big Year Ahead?
Over the years, we have also learnt that parents play a pivotal role in the academic success of their child. In particular, we discovered that students typically achieve breakthroughs faster in Science if their parents coach and monitor them at home regularly.
In order to offer the best learning experience for your child, we also strive to provide an amazing support system for parents, like you.
For starters, here is how you can help your child improve more quickly:
#1: Ensure that your child completes his/her homework properly & punctually and brings them back to class.
#2: Ensure that your child reviews our notes and worksheets during the week.
#3: Ensure that your child is adequately prepared for our tests.
#4: If your child is unclear of a concept or has a question, you are highly encouraged to post that on our Parent Support Group on Facebook or encourage him/her to approach his/her teacher.
Please note that only topical tests & graded assignments given in the weekly classes will be marked for all learning arrangements. Homework that is given in the weekly classes will be reviewed together as a class and will not be marked.
Thank you & all the best! 😇
