During this course, we’ll deep dive into the essential mathematical concepts under the 4 cornerstone topics (Whole Numbers, Fractions, Percentage & Decimals), together with worked examples and practice questions, so your child can master these concepts by doing instead of just listening.

About The Instructor

Mr. Kenneth Mak

Mr. Kenneth is the co-founder & PSLE Math Specialist of The Pique Lab. When it comes to primary Math, he is the go-to guy!

With more than 17 years of teaching experience, he has experimented with plenty of studying strategies & answering techniques to help them learn Math easier, better and faster. His deep understanding of what works and what doesn't allows him to clarify doubts effectively and break down each complex problem sum into bite-sized, easy-to-grasp concepts.

He believes that a good teacher needs to be a good communicator. As such, he constantly seeks to work on his public speaking skillset in order to present the best version of himself to and for his students.

Seasoned by experience, he is known among parents for his engaging analogies that inspires fun in learning, building rapport with his students & helping them achieve tremendous academic results in the shortest period of time.

Session 1

💡 Interchanging Between Different Number Forms

  • Identify the basics of Whole Numbers, Fraction, Decimal and Percentage.
  • Find the relationships between the numbers and work with the quantities in various contexts by interchanging and converting.
  • Solve simple word problems involving Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimal and Percentage.
  • Apply the concept to real-world problems.

 

💡 Numerator The Same 

  • Identify and interpret keywords in word problems (e.g. equal, multiple of) to correctly relate numerators and determine totals.
  • Solvie word problems involving Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals and/or Percentage.
  • Apply the concept to real-world problems.

 

💡 Remainder Concept

  • Identify the type of remainder concept based on the information provided in the question.
  • Utilise model drawing and/or branching method to solve question related to remainder concepts.
  • Solve word problems involving Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals and/or Percentage.
  • Apply the concept learnt to real-world problems.

Session 2

💡 Grouping

  • Identify and organise items in the question to form a group.
  • Count in groups and relate that to finding a total or solving for a difference.
  • Solve word problems involving Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals and/or Percentage.
  • Apply the concept learnt to real-world problems.

 

💡 Repeated Identity

  • Identify the repeated identity based on the information provided in the question.
  • Make the repeated identity/identities the same using the Lowest Common Multiple.
  • Solve word problems involving Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals and/or Percentage.
  • Apply the concept learnt to real-world problems.

  • Identify the type of change based on the information in the question.
  • Extract the units from the question and utilise the ACE technique through unitary method or model drawing to solve the question.
  • Solve word problems involving Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals and/or Percentage.
  • Apply the concept learned to real-world problems.

Session 4

💡 Simultaneous Concept

  • Establish a relationship between known and unknown quantities.
  • Form separate equations based on the information given in the question.
  • Solve for two unknowns in the equations set up by eliminating one unknown through multiplication of each equation by the Lowest Common Multiple.
  • Solve word problems involving Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals and/or Percentage.
  • Apply the concept learnt to real-world problems.

 

💡 Working Backwards

  • Identify word problems that requires working backwards, given the desired outcome.
  • Recognise cause-and-effect relationship and break down the problem into manageable steps.
  • Solve word problems involving Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals and/or Percentage.
  • Apply the concept learnt to real-world problems.
