Today, we will be talking about prime numbers \u2014 what they are, and how to determine if a certain number is a prime number.<\/p>\n

If you are a Secondary 1 student learning this for the first time, keep reading because I will teach you a quick method you can use.<\/p>\n

Let’s Take A Look At This Question<\/span><\/h2>\n

The question wants us to determine if 113 is a prime number.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\udfc5 What Is A Prime Number? \ud83c\udfc5<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Prime Number is divisible by 2 factors: 1 and itself.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Some of you might be planning to answer this question by taking 113 and dividing it by all the numbers below 113.<\/p>\n

So you\u2019ll take 113 \u00f7 1, 113 \u00f7 2, 113 \u00f7 3 and so on.<\/p>\n

But then some of you might be thinking, “No, that will take too much time.”<\/p>\n

Why not try to divide 113 by all the prime numbers between 1 and 113 instead?<\/p>\n

Now that sounds like a very good idea. So let’s list down all the prime numbers between 1 and 113:<\/p>\n

    Besides that, there\u2019s still one more step you need to do, which is to take 113 and divide it by all the prime numbers you listed.<\/p>\n

    If 113 is a prime number, it means that it should not be divisible by any of the prime numbers we listed above.<\/p>\n

    Instead of the very long list that we had earlier, we are now down to only 5 numbers. We are going to check whether 113 is divisible by these numbers.<\/p>\n

    Is 113 Divisible By 2?<\/span><\/h2>\n

    56.5 is not a whole number.<\/p>\n

    Therefore, 2 is not a factor of 113.<\/p>\n

    Is 113 Divisible By 3?<\/span>

    So 3 is not a factor of 113.<\/p>\n
