In this blog post, we will be answering a Direct Proportion<\/strong> question from the 2018 Zhonghua Secondary School (ZHSS) S2E SA1 Examination Paper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    \ud83e\uddd0 What Is The Formula For A Direct Proportion Question? \ud83e\uddd0<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The formula is y<\/em> = kx<\/em>, where k is a constant. Remember that for direct proportion questions, the only two variables are y<\/em> and x<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    However, you will notice that in the question, there is no y<\/em> or x<\/em> because they are replaced by A<\/em> and h<\/em>.<\/p>\n

    How can we form our equation then?<\/p>\n

    We are going to replace y<\/em> with A,<\/em> and x<\/em> with h<\/em>. Meanwhile, k<\/em> will remain the same.<\/p>\n

    But the question says that A<\/em> is directly proportional, not to h.<\/em> It is directly proportional to the square root of h<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    So our equation should be:<\/p>\n

    Write down \u201cwhere <\/span>k<\/span> is a constant.\u201d This is important because <\/span>k<\/span> is <\/span>not a variable<\/span>, <\/span>k<\/span> always has to be a <\/span>constant.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    Next, the question says that given that A<\/em> = 10 and h<\/em> = 225, what is the relationship between A<\/em> and h<\/em>?<\/p>\n

    Whenever the question asks about the relationship of the two variables, which are A<\/em> and h<\/em> in this question, what it wants you to do is to write down the equation that involves A<\/em> and h<\/em> as the variables<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    So in the final stage, when we come up with our equation, we only want to see A<\/em> and h<\/em> as the variables. Any other coefficients should be in numbers.<\/p>\n

    Therefore, we do not want k<\/em> in our equation because we only want A<\/em> and h<\/em> to be our variables. This means that we need to look for the value of k<\/em>.<\/p>\n

    Since the question gave us the values of A<\/em> and h<\/em>, we can substitute these values to form the equation:<\/p>\n
